LEARNING EXPECTATIONS

Our alternative high school is a "virtual school" with "in person" support. Student are encouraged to be in our building from 8:30-3:30 to receive any support that they need (General Ed or Special Ed).

We use an online curriculum called Edgenuity. Which allows our students the ability to move at their own pace.

High school students are expected to attend daily, but we do work with students who have extenuating circumstances.

Each student is given 7 classes each semester (A total of 14 classes for the year)

Students may work on 1 class at a time or they may work on all seven daily. If a student works on one class at a time, that class should take approx 2-3 weeks to complete.

Each Edgenuity class is composed of multiple units, and each unit has multiple activities of lessons, quizzes, tests and an exam.

  • A student must complete a minimum of 7 activities to be considered present each day.

  • However, a student must complete approximately 15 activities each day to be considered "on track" to complete the 7 classes by the end of the semester.

If a student does not finish a class by the end of the semester, they may finish that class the following semester or work on it over the summer, so that they never "lose ground".

VIRTUAL/AT HOME LEARNING

Some students have circumstances in their lives that cause us to consider "completely virtual" or "at home" learning for them.

This is a case by case basis and will only be determined after a meeting with the student, parent/guardian and coordinator.

Even if you were a "virtual" learner before you will need the approval from the coordinator for the 24-25 school year and sign a contract.

See our handbook for more information.

VIRTUAL DAYS

Due to a shortage of teachers and the special nature of our school there are times that we will go "virtual" during the school year. Students will have access to their teacher, but only virtual that day.

Students are still expected to work on their classes online, and they still must complete a minimum of 7 activities on "virtual days" to be present for that day.

BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS

We keep a low key quiet environment. Students are expected to learn and/or let other learn. We allow each student to work and take breaks as they need them, while keeping the focus on completing their daily activities for the day.

We understand that not everyone always gets along. However, students are to be respectful, quiet and find their own space in school to complete their learning for the day.

If a student is having an issue with another student they need to let a staff member know, so that we can help out immediately.
