roof at baraga area schools

Summer time is a busy time for schools. Baraga Area Schools worked with UPEA and Mill Creek North to secure project contracts for a roof and boiler replacement that took place this summer. These were two of the projects that the sinking fund committee, which consisted of school staff, board members, parents, and community members, chose as top priority. Although there were many projects that were identified, the committee decided to go with “warm, safe, and dry” projects. The committee, along with UPEA and Mill Creek North, brought the roof and boiler projects to the board as top priority items last fall. Nasi Roofing was awarded the roofing contract and Prime Speciality Contracting was awarded the boiler project. The roof was complete before the end of July and the boilers are set to be completed at the end of August. The roofing project did include a “waterfall” that has roofing material that continues down the side of the school to remedy some leaking that was happening within that area. The school plans to look at school logos to add to this roofing material, which can be seen when entering the high school side of the building. The boiler project will have a second phase and will take roughly two more summers to complete. These projects are in the early stages of planning with a tentative start date of summer 2025. The sinking fund committee will meet again soon to plan the next projects.
