About us

History

School District No. 1 was established in 1881 six years after Baraga County was formed. Seventy- seven pupils from the ages of 5 to 21 enrolled in the ungraded school system in 1885 – 1886.

Enrollment

Baraga is an excellent Class “D” school. We now have an enrollment of approximately 340 students.

Curriculum

Grades 7-12 have a curriculum offering that meets the Michigan State Standards for learning. In addition special education, remedial programs and counseling are offered as well as access to vocational classes.

Staff

We have a staff that consists of 26 teachers, 2 administrators, 3 secretaries, 3 cooks, 6 bus driver/custodians and a number of support staff.

Vike of the Month-5th Grade. Hadley makes being a Vike look easy. She demonstrates responsibility, is friendly, excels in school, and is always dedicated to do her best in everything she does. "Having her in class with her gentle and joyful nature brings a smile to my face."

Vike of the Month-1st Grade. Jaelynn is well deserving of this award due to her hard work and dedication. She is one of the hardest working students I know. She never gives up and has great positive self-talk which helps her be so successful. She is kind and a great friend.

Vike of the Month-Kindergarten. Eliza comes to school ready to work hard and does so all day long. She has a big heart and is happy to share her love with everyone. She has a great attention to detail, listens to instructions, and fully participating during lessons.

Vike of the Month-Transitional Kindergarten. James is always ready to learn, works hard, and tries his best. He is a thinker and a builder. He has made some pretty impressive creations with Legos or Magnetics. He follows rules, is a good friend, and is kind to others.

Middle School Vike of the Month-December. Anna is well organized, earns good grades, plays sports, and is very kind to others. She participates in classroom discussion and is helpful in the classroom. Her responsibility and silly sense of humor separates her from others.

High School Vike of the Month-December. Nolan is an enthusiastic and engaged student. He thinks about what he learns in his classes and applies his learning to everyday life. Nolan often asks questions during lessons that provoke discussion, raising the level of learning.
